Time Magazine Critic Badly Hurt in Car Crash

PERTH, Australia — A car driven by Robert Hughes, Time magazine’s art and culture critic, crashed head-on with another car Friday in northwestern Australia, police said Saturday. Hughes was in critical but stable condition. He broke his leg, wrists and ribs.
Three people in the other vehicle were injured in the accident about 70 miles south of Broome in Western Australia state, police said.
Hughes was trapped in the car for three hours, remaining conscious throughout, police said.
