ATHENS — Two bomb blasts rocked central Athens today, damaging the cars of Turkish diplomats just hours before Turkey’s foreign minister arrived for talks on the emerging detente between Athens and Ankara.
No injuries were reported. Police said they discovered and defused two other bombs after the 3 a.m. blasts, claimed by a Greek terrorist group that said it opposes the recent rapprochement between bitter rivals Greece and Turkey. Ten hours after the blast, Turkish Foreign Minister Mesut Yilmaz was met at Athens airport by Greek Foreign Minister Karolos Papoulias, who told reporters that the explosions “could not damage the existing climate” of improving relations.
