Tim Tebow’s Eagles contract a lesson in bottom-level NFL pay

Tim Tebow signing with the Philadelphia Eagles is arguably the biggest surprise of the NFL off-season (along with the Eagles’ other player moves), but at least the former Heisman Trophy winner’s contract won’t give Philly fans conniptions.

Tebow’s one-year deal is for $660,000 and includes no offer for a bonus or guaranteed money, according to USA Today. He will be paid in weekly installments of $38,824 as long as he remains on the Eagles.

The Eagles would owe Tebow nothing other than stipends if they cut him before the season. He’ll make $195 for each day of off-season workouts and $1,800 a week in training camp.

In contrast, Tebow was paid $8.45 million in guaranteed money under the terms of his rookie contract with the Denver Broncos in 2010.

Tebow, 27, is the fourth quarterback on the Eagles’ roster behind Sam Bradford, Mark Sanchez and Matt Barkley. He is expected to compete with Sanchez and Barkley for the backup role.

Tebow last played in the NFL in 2012, when he was used sparingly by the New York Jets. Whether he’ll still be on the Eagles before the start of the season remains to be seen.
