Football: Passing competition set for Saturday at Chaminade
- Share via
The start of what should be many spring and summer seven on seven passing competitions is set for Saturday at Chaminade, where four teams with lots of talent will be gathering at 9 a.m. to start the process of preparing for the fall season.
Chaminade, Calabasas, Oaks Christian and Narbonne are getting together to let their skill position players test themselves. There will be four very good quarterbacks on display.
Dymond Lee of Chaminade, Tristan Gebbia of Calabasas, Matt Corral of Oaks Christian and Jalen Chatman of Narbonne are the quarterbacks to watch. Lee will be a senior, Gebbia a junior, Corral and Chatman sophomores. Chatman is the backup to Roman Ale, who’s competing in baseball this spring. All figure to be playing college football.
Oaks Christian will be making its debut under new co-coach Jim Benkert.
Football competitions have been starting earlier than ever as teams decide to move up their mandatory three-week summer dead periods. As a result, there will be tournaments in May this year, such as the Saugus tournament taking place on May 30.
Spring football practices also begin in May, so teams want to combine that experience with seven on seven competitions.
