X-rays negative on Dodgers catcher A.J. Ellis’ right hand

Reporting from San Francisco — Dodgers catcher A.J. Ellis said Wednesday night that X-rays on his right hand, injured earlier in a game against the San Francisco Giants, were negative.

“That’s a relief,” he said.

Ellis hurt his hand on a ninth-inning pitch by Chris Hatcher that struck Giants outfielder Justin Maxwell on the left elbow. The ball ricocheted off Maxwell’s elbow and hit Ellis in the back of his hand.

With trainer Stan Conte by his side, Ellis then tried to make a couple of practice throws to first baseman Adrian Gonzalez. Both of his throws sailed into the outfield.

Ellis said he hoped to be available for the series finale against the Giants on Thursday.

As a precaution, team officials said, Ellis’ X-rays will be sent to specialists in Los Angeles to be reviewed.
