Tasting of the week: Grand Cercle des Vins de Bordeaux

Almost 40 Bordeaux producers from the Right and the Left Banks will be pouring more than 100 wines -- both the current 2012 vintage and some older bottles as well -- at this year’s Grand Cercle des Vins de Bordeaux tasting at the Peninsula Beverly Hills on Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

This event is unusual in that, as a rule, the wines are not poured by distributors’ representatives, but by the owner or winemaker of these family-owned estates, who come from France for the tasting. For anyone planning a trip to Bordeaux this year, it would be a great opportunity to make an appointment at some of the châteaux.

Collectors will have the chance to bid on Bordeaux bottles and magnums from the estates participating in a silent auction. The proceeds benefit Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles through the T. J. Martell Foundation.

Wineries showing their wines include Saint-Emilion Grand Crus Château Boutisse, Château Crois Cardinale, Château du Parc and Château Trianon as well as Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé Château de Pressac, Château Fleur Cardinale and Château Laroze from the Right Bank. Châteaux participating from the Bordeaux’ Left Bank include Château Haut-Selve, Château d’Arsac, Château Tour de Pez and Château Haut Lagrange.

The hotel will provide hors d’oeuvres and a self-serve pasta station, so no attendee goes hungry during the tasting.

Tickets for the event are $90 in advance, $125 at the door.
