Second ‘Idol’ dips in ratings

Though not quite posting the record-breaking numbers it did Tuesday night, Fox’s “American Idol” still reigned supreme Wednesday evening with 26.4 million viewers between 8 and 9 p.m.
The series did put a dent into the performance of ABC’s high-flying “Lost,” but the freshman drama nevertheless scored a solid second with 19.6 million viewers. ABC was quick to note that “Lost” still registered its third-highest numbers ever in both total viewers and adults ages 18 to 49 and that “Idol” was down 3.2 million viewers and 13% in the 18 to 49 demographic from its initial Wednesday episode last season.
Fox’s new dramatic/thriller series, “Point Pleasure,” didn’t benefit from “Idol” in its premiere at 9 p.m. ABC’s “Alias” took the top spot in that hour for the third consecutive week with 14 million viewers; “Point Pleasant” managed only 11.7 million.
