Former Guantanamo Prisoner Arrives Home

The first of 12 Kuwaitis held at Guantanamo Bay returned home after more than three years’ captivity.
Nasser Mutairi, 28, arrived in Kuwait City on a jet sent by the Kuwaiti government, said Khalid al Odah, head of the Kuwaiti Family Committee, formed by parents of detainees. The U.S. said in a statement that Mutairi was handed over “for prosecution,” but Al Odah said he was not wanted on any charge.
Al Odah said Mutairi, an Education Ministry employee and a missionary representing the apolitical Tablighi Jamaat, had traveled to Afghanistan in 2000 to teach in mosques and schools. He was captured by bounty hunters and sold to U.S. forces.
