New Bus Service

I read with interest the article on the new bus service to Santa Barbara in the July 23 edition [“New Bus to Travel Trail of 2 Cities”]. Especially interesting was the section on the Aug. 6-11 week of “free rides.”
In order to offer this “free” service, the Ventura County Transportation Commission has graciously decided to charge the Smart Card monthly passport holders an extra $10. Those “free rides” won’t really be free and should not be subsidized by cardholders who may not even take this bus.
I hope all VISTA service riders protest this “free ride” fee on their August monthly pass and let the commission know that this practice isn’t going to win points with Smart Card holders.
