VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A man was swept away and drowned Friday after saving his 10-year-old daughter from rough water, authorities said.
The 43-year-old man, who was not identified, swam to help the girl at nightfall when she was struggling in heavy waves, Virginia Beach Emergency Medical Services spokesman Ed Brazle said.
The father swam with the girl to a jetty before being swept away. Two surfers found his body about 25 minutes later drifting 100 yards to the south.
