A wildfire burning 722 acres of forest along the Merced River west of Yosemite National Park was about 20% contained Friday.
Fire officials expect the blaze to be under control by Wednesday, said Jenni Stark, a California Department of Forestry spokeswoman.
About 1,300 firefighters battled the blaze along California 140 just east of Briceburg in Mariposa County, roughly 20 miles west of Yosemite, Stark said.
So far only six minor injuries to firefighters have been reported and no buildings were immediately threatened, Stark said.
