Ballet Company Wins Grant for Youth Program
- Share via
Channel Islands Ballet has been awarded a state grant to support theater and arts programs in the Oxnard Elementary School District.
The $48,800 grant by the California Arts Council will fund nearly 70% of the company’s “Arts for Youth” program, which introduces children to the performing arts at a time when budget limitations have eliminated arts programs in many schools.
The dance company launched its youth arts program a decade ago with a ballet demonstration for 1,200 students.
Since then, the program has expanded and now offers annual performances for schoolchildren, classroom visits and training for young dancers.
