Michael Bruno; Israeli Economist, Former World Bank Official

Michael Bruno, 64, an Israeli economist who was a former World Bank vice president and head of the Bank of Israel. Born in Germany, he held several key economic posts and was part of the group that formulated the Israeli government’s economic stabilization policy between 1988 and 1991. The plan was credited with reining in the country’s spiraling rate of inflation. Until recently, Bruno served as vice president and chief economist of the World Bank. He was governor of the Bank of Israel from 1986 to 1991. He held visiting professor posts at Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of London, and had advised the governments of Mexico, Yugoslavia and Poland.
