A 16-year-old Oxnard mother was killed Friday when her car collided with a big-rig truck on South Las Posas Road south of Camarillo, authorities said.
The victim’s identification was withheld until family members could be notified.
Officers from the California Highway Patrol were investigating the crash Friday night, but preliminary reports indicate it occurred when one of the vehicles ran a red light.
Authorities said the truck was southbound on Las Posas Road when it collided with a car at East 5th Street and dragged it about 60 yards along the wet roadway.
The driver of the car died at the scene of blunt-force trauma. Her 19-year-old husband was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard with moderate chest injuries, neck and back pain and cuts, according to coroner’s officials.
Both were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
The couple’s 16-month-old son was riding in a child-safety seat and was not injured, according to Ventura County Fire Department spokeswoman Cindy Tinsley.
The driver of the big rig was not injured.
Authorities did not release the names of any of those involved in the crash.
South Las Posas Road was closed between East 5th Street and Cawelti Road for about five hours Friday night.
