Ex-Con Pleads Not Guilty in Slaying

A 27-year-old ex-convict pleaded not guilty in Municipal Court on Friday to the Dec. 9 slaying of Kenneth Wayne Beardsley. John Robert de la Torre of Ventura also pleaded not guilty to use of a deadly weapon. A preliminary hearing was set for 8:30 a.m. Jan. 28.
De la Torre remains in Ventura County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail.
Beardsley, 32, was found by police lying on the living room floor of his home in the 600 block of Sheridan Way in the Ventura Avenue area with a knife wound to the chest.
He died a short time later at Ventura County Medical Center.
