Turnovers Haunt Antelope Valley

Inglewood High’s George Walker rebounded his own missed shot and made a layup with five seconds remaining to give the Sentinels a 70-69 victory over Antelope Valley on Thursday in the first round of the Best of the West Invitational at Long Beach City College.
The Antelopes (6-5) led, 38-27, at halftime and 55-46 after three quarters, but nine fourth-quarter turnovers helped Inglewood overcome the deficit.
“It all goes back to fundamentals,” Antelope Coach Tom Mahan said. “We didn’t value the basketball and turnovers killed us.”
Walker had 28 points and 17 rebounds for Inglewood (4-3), which took its first lead at 62-61 with two minutes 34 seconds left to play on a Walker layup.
Antelope Valley came back to take a 69-66 lead on two free throws by Jon Norman with one minute to play, but Inglewood answered with a jump shot by Deaudra Tanner and the game winner by Walker.
Ziaire Williams had 23 points for Antelope Valley and Tony Walker, playing significant minutes for the first time all season because of a football injury, had 14.
