German Company Acquires Controlling Interest in AmeriQuest

SANTA ANA — A German company has acquired controlling interest in AmeriQuest Technologies Inc., an ailing microcomputer systems and peripherals distributor, for $50 million.

Munich-based Computer 2000, which had loaned the Santa Ana company $18 million last November, has purchased 62% of AmeriQuest for an additional $32 million.

AmeriQuest lost $3.3 million, or 16 cents a share, on sales of $132 million for the third quarter that ended March 31, compared with net income of $203,000, or 3 cents a share, for the same quarter a year earlier.

The company’s stock closed at $2.25 Tuesday, unchanged in New York Stock Exchange trading.
