SIMI VALLEY : Schools May Acquire Energy-Saving Buses
- Share via
The Simi Valley Unified School District hopes to receive up to 10 energy-efficient school buses by participating in a statewide program that is demonstrating the new environmentally-friendly vehicles.
District officials have recommended that the school board pay a consultant $3,300 to write a grant proposal to the California Energy Commission to get the new buses.
The board will vote on the expenditure at tonight’s meeting.
The new buses would be a major boost for the school district’s transportation fleet, which has deteriorated in recent years.
Last month, the school board approved spending $259,000 to purchase several badly needed vehicles.
In the last year, four school buses, seven maintenance vehicles and a delivery truck have been taken out of the fleet because they are beyond repair, a district report said.
