Goodyear to Abandon Some Lines: The Akron, Ohio, company will stop making tires for lawn mowers, garden equipment and industrial and small highway trailers and will shift production to farm tires. Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. said the specialty tires made at its Kelly-Springfield plant in Freeport, Ill., represent less than 2% of its replacement tire sales in the United States. The move will allow the company to concentrate on its core tire businesses and make better use of plant capacity, said Sam Gibara, executive vice president of Goodyear’s North American region.
