Restaurant Vandals Suspected to Be Animal Lovers

LAGUNA NIGUEL — Sheriff’s investigators were looking into the possibility that animal rights activists may have vandalized a McDonald’s restaurant early Sunday.
A fountain was thrown through a plate-glass window of the restaurant at 30305 Street of the Golden Lantern, and its walls were spray-painted with slogans such as “Die Center” and “Meat is Murder,” Orange County Sheriff’s Lt. Hector Rivera said.
The damage may have been done between 1:30 and 4:30 a.m. Sunday, when no one was at the restaurant, Rivera said.
The fountain thrown through the window had been removed from the front of the restaurant.
In May, vandals who were apparently animal lovers targeted one of the few county restaurants serving buffalo meat. A window at G & G International Pizza/House of Buffalo in Costa Mesa was smashed and a cardboard sign bearing the words “buffalo killer” was left inside the restaurant.
