Shane Slayton’s three-run triple capped a comeback from a four-run deficit as the Westlake-Royal American Legion baseball team defeated Sparks, Nev., 8-7, Tuesday in the first round of pool play in the Sierra Nevada Classic at the University of Nevada.
Westlake-Royal (8-2) trailed, 7-3, entering the fifth, when Slayton’s triple sparked a five-run rally. Slayton, a catcher from Royal High, will play next season at Nevada. Rico Lagattuta and Slayton each had two hits for Westlake-Royal, which will play Centralia, Wash., today at noon.
