Merger Is Supported

I question the validity of Moe Kadish’s charge of mismanagement on the part of Pleasant Valley Hospital’s administration (“Hospital Accused of Mismanagement,” May 28).
We may be overlooking a key question: How satisfied are those who have been patients and how do they feel about the proposed merger with St. John’s Regional Medical Center? My family and I, together with many of our neighbors, have been inpatients and outpatients at both hospitals for many years. We have consistently received quality care from competent and friendly personnel. It is unlikely that an institution allegedly inept at handling fiscal matters could provide such high quality care.
The merger should not be feared. My opinion is that it will be good for all concerned, providing economies of scale and a stronger control of future costs as two separate but similar entities are managed as one. Maybe it is too much to expect in a time when frustrations lead to willy-nilly trashing of everything that goes awry.
As concerned citizens we should insist on shedding more light and less heat on a proposition that will affect the health of the entire community.
