Camp for Homeless in L.A. Filling Up
The homeless campground on Santa Fe Avenue has been filling up to capacity, Al Jones, who supervises the site near downtown Los Angeles for the Salvation Army, said Thursday.
Health and fire officials have set a maximum limit of 600 people for the campground, Jones said. Even so, he added, “we haven’t turned anyone away.”
Typically, he said, the camp’s population drops sharply during the day, only to fill up again at night. The 12-acre temporary facility is scheduled to close in mid-August.
