It’s Larry Hagman Day in Dallas, and Southfork plans a toast

When TV viewers say a last goodbye to J.R. Ewing on Monday night’s episode of “Dallas,” some fans will be raising a glass at Southfork Ranch to pay tribute to the man who played the Texas scoundrel over the course of more than two decades.
Hagman died Nov. 23 at age 81, and now his character will be laid to rest on Monday night’s episode of the TNT revival of the Texas oil family soap opera. To mark the occasion, Dallas’ mayor earlier this month declared March 11 to be Larry Hagman Day.
And the mansion indelibly linked to the Ewing clan has invited all to gather out front at 6:30 p.m. for a sunset toast ($5 per person, alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverage, your choice).
The ranch in Parker, Texas, provided the backdrop for the original 1978-91 TV series and quickly became a hit with fans. It opened as a tourist attraction in 1985 and continues to draw about 400,000 visitors a year who come to sample Ewing-style life, according to the attraction’s website.
Over the years, Hagman returned to his TV homestead to visit and to film reunion movies in 1995 and 1997.
