East Coast: 10-day tour of top gardens from New York to Virginia

Gardening fans and plant lovers go behind the scenes at some of the best known gardens on the East Coast. Botanic, public and estate gardens in New York, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C., are featured on this 10-day tour as well as some attached to historic homes in out-of-the-way places in Pennsylvania and Maryland.

The Gardens of American History begins in New York City with a private tour of the New York Botanical Garden, which includes its greenhouses. Then participants travel by bus to private estates turned public gardens in Pennsylvania: Chanticleer gardens in Wayne and Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square.

Other stops include the Ladew Topiary Gardens in Monkton, Md., Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello in Charlottesville, Va., and Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia, and the tour ends with several gardens in the nation’s capital.

Dates: Tours start in New York and end in Washington, D.C., and depart June 28, July 19, Aug. 16, Sept. 6 and 20.

Price: $2,749 a person, based on double occupancy. It includes ground transportation, hotels, many meals and entrance to gardens. Airfare to New York City and return fare from Washington, D.C., is extra.
