Margaret Atwood will roll out her newest book not on land but at sea. The author of more than 40 works of fiction, poetry and essays will preview “MaddAddam” aboard the Queen Mary 2 on an August transatlantic sailing from New York City to England.
“MaddAddam,” which won’t be released until September in the U.S., completes the trilogy that began with “Oryx and Crake” and “The Year of the Flood.”
The book will be sold on board ahead of the British release date, and Atwood will be on hand for book signings during the cruise. A spokeswoman says guests also may get to attend a Q&A; with Atwood during the journey in the ship’s Illuminations Theatre.
No stops during this seven-day crossing, so passengers will have time to read the new book and browse other titles in the ship’s library. Of course, there are 14 decks to explore, including an on-board planetarium and pool and spa.
Date: The cruise leaves Aug. 15 from New York City and arrives Aug. 22 in Southampton, England.
Price: Starting at $1,399 a person for an inside cabin, double occupancy. It includes cabin, cruise and entertainment, including those events with Atwood. International airfare to and from England and New York is extra.
Info: Cunard, (877) 614-3655, or contact a travel agent.
