Washington: Lake Quinault Lodge offers change-of-season discount

Even though Southern California is still baking in post-summer heat, autumn -- and post-summer discounts at places to stay -- are on the way.
Lake Quinault Lodge in the lush rainforest on the edge of Olympic National Park offers a special rate that’s good for leaf-peepers and winter travelers.
The deal: The Fall and Winter Special features rooms at the historic lodge for $101 a night and up. Look at the different rooms and buildings before choosing a room and making a reservation for this deal. The main lodge building dates to 1926 with fireplace and lake-view rooms; the three-story Lakeside Building features more modern rooms; and the quirky Boathouse Building was built in 1923 and has just eight rooms (some with views, some without).
When: The offer is good for stays through Dec. 23, though blackout dates apply. Also, it’s based on availability.
Tested: I found availability for a three-night stay starting Oct. 12 for $101 a night, plus tax. The room is in the main lodge building and has two double beds. The same room on the same nights without the special cost $127 a night plus tax. Total savings for three days: $81.
