Now it’s Barbie’s turn to set sail aboard Royal Caribbean cruises

Barbie joins Princess Fiona and the “Shrek” clan as the latest kiddie character to invade Royal Caribbean International cruises. The iconic doll from Mattel will become the centerpiece of a “cruise experience” for girls 4-11 on the entire 22-ship fleet starting next year, the company said.
The Barbie Premium Experience starts with staterooms decorated with Barbie pink everything -- pillows and blankets, toothbrushes and tote bags. Then there’s a dress-up fashion show, mermaid dance class and a Tiaras & Teacups party featuring pink pastries and pink lemonade.
Girls also take a fashion designer workshop to learn how to sketch and create clothes for Barbie. And of course, there’s a keepsake doll with outfits too (but no mention of Ken).
Royal Caribbean has been courting little-cruisers since it partnered with DreamWorks a few years ago. Princess Fiona from the “Shrek” series in 2010 served as the godmother for Allure of the Seas, and cruises featuring “Madagascar” characters are making the rounds.
Date: The Barbie experience will be rolled out on ships between January and March. Reservations will be taken starting in October.
Price: It costs $349 per child besides the cabin cost. The cruise extra includes all Barbie-themed activities, a Barbie movie night and more.
Info: Royal Caribbean, (866) 562-7625, or contact a travel agent.
