Tagwhat app educates and entertains with travel-related info

With this app, you can become both a student and teacher of the world.

What it does: Expand your knowledge of your destination with text, pictures and sometimes video on topics such as food, sports, history and more. Collect the content you like and add it to a log of places you want to visit.

What’s hot: The Superslider is a refreshing new concept in travel apps. As you are reading about a specific location, click on the tiny arrow in the lower left corner of your screen. Up pops the Superslider, which lets you access related real-time feeds from Foursquare, Facebook and Twitter.

What’s not: The first time I opened the app my screen filled with Wikipedia notes. It took awhile to load before I could scroll down and see if there was any depth to the app. I clicked on the Channels button and turned off the Wikipedia channel (and other sources that didn’t interest me), so I was left with channels that did interest me: Movies, Nature, Art and Books, to name a few. It would be even better if you could turn off all the channels in one swipe and then turn on the ones you want.

Worth it: If you’re looking for practical info, this is not your travel guide. However, if you want offbeat travel trivia to impress traveling companions, give it a go.
