L.A.-Honolulu for less than $400 round trip

Here’s a nice getaway for those who put off their summer vacation or want an inexpensive winter break. And let’s face it: Hawaii is almost always a nice weather spot. Hawaiian Airlines launched a sale on airfares Monday from the West Coast to Honolulu with tickets starting at $388 round-trip from Los Angeles.
The deal: Check out the featured fares on the airline’s website to find cheapest seats month by month. Lowest fares apply to midweek flights; weekends cost about $50 more. Discounts apply to departures from Sacramento, San Diego and San Francisco too.
When: Reservations must be made online by next Monday for travel from Nov. 21 through Feb. 9, with some blackout dates.
Tested: I checked availability and found a round-trip ticket for the slightly lower rate of $378, excluding tax and fees, leaving L.A. on Dec. 5 and returning Dec. 12. Looking at fares for the same dates Monday afternoon, Kayak showed Hawaiian to have the lowest prices (other airlines came in around $20 higher). But prices can change quickly, so check before you book and make sure you can’t beat Hawaiian’s sale rate.
