Robocalls worth getting

Recorded, unsolicited robocalls from telemarketers are not only annoying, but also illegal in the vast majority of cases. But several types of robocalls are permitted under California’s Public Utilities Code. They include:
•Schools: Messages to parents or guardians concerning attendance.
•Safety: Law enforcement, fire protection and health agencies can make robocalls to tell the public about current or threatened emergencies.
•Danger: Petroleum, chemical and nuclear plants can use robocalls to warn residents of potentially life-threatening situations.
•Utilities: A public or private utility can make a robocall in connection with an installation appointment. It can also use recorded calls to notify employees that they’re needed during emergencies.
•Cable guy: A recorded call from an installer in regard to a scheduled appointment.
