UCLA recruit Sotonye Jamabo led police officers on a “five- to seven-minute chase” before being arrested Saturday night, the Dallas Morning News reported.
Jamabo was charged with minor consumption of alcohol, minor in possession of alcohol, speeding, driving without possessing a driver’s license and disregarding a stop sign. He was released Sunday after posting a $7,500 bond.
The Plano (Texas) West senior was a highly sought-after running back. He signed with UCLA in February.
According to a police spokesman, Jamabo was speeding on U.S. Highway 175. He then led police on a chase in his pickup truck, with objects being thrown from the vehicle, police said. There were two other passengers.
Jamabo could face a sentence of six months to two years if convicted.
A UCLA official said Sunday that the university was gathering more information.
Jamabo gained 2,279 yards rushing and scored 44 touchdowns for Plano West last season.
