Bode Miller says his knee is healthy heading toward Sochi Olympics

Park City, Utah — With only four months remaining before the 2014 Sochi Winter Games, American alpine skier Bode Miller says he’s feeling healthy enough to improve upon his career record of five Olympic medals.
Miller is coming back from multiple surgeries on his left knee last season. Now, after training in Chile and losing about 20 pounds, he is looking forward to competing this winter.
“I had no pain and was skiing with high intensity,” he said Monday. “The bone surface is perfect. All the ligaments are in great shape.”
Miller has always skied to a different drummer, saying in the past that he cared more about skiing well than winning. Has that changed as he reaches his mid-30s?
“I’m motivated entirely by money and medals,” he said. “Just mixing it up. Trying something new.”
That line drew laughter from reporters gathered at a U.S. Olympic Committee news conference in advance of the Games. Miller believes he has some good results left in his career.
“Until you’re all rotten and shriveled up, you should keep going,” he said. “I’m shriveled but I’m not rotten.”
