Louisville suspends offensive coordinator in ‘play-sharing’ scandal

College football continues to reel from the scandal involving a Wake Forest radio announcer who allegedly shared game-plan information with opposing teams.
On Friday, Louisville suspended its offensive coordinator, Lonnie Galloway, for the upcoming Citrus Bowl because he received confidential plays before the Cardinals faced Wake Forest earlier this season.
“Although no one from Louisville sought the information, once it was provided, we did not do what should have been done,” Louisville Athletic Director Tom Jurich said in a statement. “The information should not have been accepted.”
The man at the center of the scandal is Tommy Elrod, a former Wake Forest player and assistant who was not retained on the staff when the Demon Deacons changed coaches before the 2014 season.
Elrod took a job on the radio broadcast team and, soon after, allegedly began leaking plays to opponents.
Wake Forest became aware of a potential problem when staff members found play diagrams at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium on the day before their team played Louisville there.
Virginia Tech has acknowledged being contacted by Elrod and officials at Army told Sports Illustrated that they are also part of Wake Forest’s internal investigation.
