Indians’ Terry Francona has heart procedure, won’t manage in All-Star Game

Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona underwent a heart procedure Thursday and will not manage the American League All-Star team next week, the Indians announced Friday.
The Indians said Francona had undergone a cardiac ablation. The procedure corrects an irregular heartbeat by burning a targeted portion of heart tissue.
Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen underwent the same procedure five years ago.
The Indians said Francona, 59, is expected to be discharged from the Cleveland Clinic “within the next day or two” and resume managing the team on July 14, when the team plays its first game of the second half.
Brad Mills, the Indians’ bench coach, will manage the AL in All-Star Game. Mills has managed the Indians on various occasions this season as doctors explored the cause of Francona’s ill feeling.
