Bears-Giants do boffo TV ratings

Why even have other programs on television against the NFL?
Thursday’s game between the New York Giants and Chicago Bears on the NFL Network, which not even everybody has and which isn’t always easy to find (though easier than finding Fox Sports 1, where the USC-Arizona game was), delivered a 5.0 rating and was watched by an average of 7.8 million viewers. That doesn’t even include over-the-air stations that broadcast the game in Chicago and New York.
Won by the Bears 27-21, the telecast topped last week’s “Thursday Night Football” game
between the Buffalo Bills and Cleveland Browns by 19% in rating (4.2) and 13% in viewership (6.9 million).
The Giants-Bears was Thursday’s most-watched program among all shows on cable and topped the MLB AL Division Series Game 5 between Oakland and Detroit on TBS by nearly 1.7 million viewers.
Through five games of its 13-game schedule, “Thursday Night Football” is averaging a 5.1
rating (up 28% from 2012) and 8.1 million viewers (up 27% from 2012) -- on pace to be the highest-rated and most-watched “Thursday Night Football” season ever.
