Utah quarterback Travis Wilson carries his friend Nick Pasquale with him.
Pasquale, a receiver at UCLA, died when he was struck by a car on Sept. 8. Wilson and Pasquale were childhood friends and teammates at San Clemente High.
Wilson told the Salt Lake Tribune that when the Utes play UCLA on Thursday, “it’s going to hurt not seeing him after the game.”
Wilson flew to San Clemente for Pasquale’s memorial service the morning after the Utes lost an overtime game to Oregon State.
“Nick was a tremendous athlete in high school,” Wilson told the Tribune. “I remember him playing good defense and giving the biggest hits I’ve seen. He was only 5-foot-7, but he had the biggest heart I’ve ever seen.”
Wilson stays in touch with Pasquale’s family to make “sure they know I am playing for them and also Nick.”
Donations came be made to the nickpasqualefoundation.com. UCLA is also selling Pasquale shirts, with a proceeds going to the foundation.
