Travis Wear to miss UCLA’s game against Arizona State

UCLA forward Travis Wear will not play against Arizona State on Saturday after suffering a concussion against Arizona.
Wear was injured in the first half, when Arizona’s Grant Jerrett inadvertently hit him with an elbow. He is the Bruins’ third leading scorer, averaging 12.2 points a game.
“There is a normal protocol when it’s determined you have a concussion,” UCLA Coach Ben Howland said. “There are a certain amount of steps and days.”
After the game, Wear said, “I got a stinger, both arms went numb. I was out of it.”
David Wear absorbed the majority of his brother’s minutes in an 84-73 victory over Arizona. Freshman Tony Parker played 10 minutes, the most he has seen in a month.
Parker had six points and three rebounds. His three-point play on a turn-around jumper and foul shot gave the Bruins a 63-58 lead with 6 minutes 48 seconds left.
“He made a huge difference for us,” Howland said.
The Bruins have eight scholarship players. Travis Wear averages 30 minutes a game.
“It means everyone is going to get more minutes,” Howland said.
