Recap: Sam Farmer, Michael Hiltzik discuss Seahawks-Packers debacle

Monday night’s game between the Seattle Seahawks and Green Bay Packers has led to renewed outrage over the performance of the NFL’s replacement officials.
Earlier today, Times NFL columnist Sam Farmer and business writer Michael Hiltzik took part in a Google+ hangout to discuss the game. Among the topics:
How a dispute over the regular officials’ pension plan opened the door to all of this.
Whether the blown call will lead to the NFL reaching a hasty agreement with the old officials.
What the actual final call of the game should have been.
As Farmer wrote earlier today:
“Who caught the ball in Seattle? Was it simultaneous possession on the Hail Mary pass? Did Seattle’s receiver pull the ball away on the ground? Shouldn’t even matter. So says the NFL in a statement released Tuesday morning. The final play in Monday night’s Packers-Seahawks game should have been decided by blatant offensive pass interference by Seattle receiver Golden Tate, the league said. He shoved a Green Bay defender in the back before the ball arrived, knocking him to the ground.”
