U.S. Open gets Monday men’s final; Djokovic-Ferrer match postponed

NEW YORK -- With defending champion and second-seeded Novak Djokovic trailing fourth-seeded David Ferrer, 5-2, in the first set of their U.S. Open men’s semifinal Saturday afternoon, the match was postponed because of impending severe weather.
Fans were advised to leave Arthur Ashe Stadium, and for the fifth consecutive year this tournament will have a Monday final.
Third-seeded Andy Murray was able to complete a 5-7, 6-2, 6-1, 7-6 (7) semifinal win over sixth-seeded Tomas Berdych in 3 hours 58 minutes.
The start of that match was delayed 90 minutes because of storms and was played in extremely windy conditions, but it would seem that, with a day of rest, Murray will be at an advantage against either opponent Monday.
The women’s final between fourth-seeded Serena Williams and top-seeded Victoria Azarenka, originally scheduled for Saturday night, had been postponed until Sunday earlier in the day.
