NASCAR’s Tony Stewart won’t race in next year’s Indy 500

It was a compelling idea while it lasted.
But three-time NASCAR champion Tony Stewart will not race in next year’s Indianapolis 500 ahead of the NASCAR Coca-Cola 600 later that same day.
Stewart-Haas Racing, the NASCAR team that Stewart co-owns, made the announcement on Twitter on Wednesday, the same day Stewart appeared at the International Motorsports Industry Show at Indianapolis.
The possibility of Stewart, 41, driving in the motor racing “double” on May 26 surfaced last week when team owner Roger Penske, whose cars have won a record 15 Indy 500s, offered Stewart one of his cars if Stewart wanted to drive in the race.
Stewart did the “double” in 1999 and 2001. He drove in the Indy 500 five times, without winning, before turning his full attention to NASCAR.
