Deion and Pilar Sanders: Now he’s being charged with assault too

Deion Sanders has been cited for misdemeanor assault in connection with an altercation with his estranged wife, Pilar Sanders, who spent Monday night in jail and also was charged with misdemeanor assault as a result of the same incident.
Pilar Sanders was arrested Monday, with her husband tweeting that she and a friend had attacked him in front of their children at their home in the Dallas suburb of Prosper. He also posted a photo of the boys filling out a police report against their mother, which was later removed from his Twitter feed.
Further investigation into the incident also led to a charge being filed against the former NFL star, police said late Tuesday, although it did not warrant his arrest. No details were released about the allegations, but a Prosper police spokesman said the new charge applies to any act that could be considered aggressive, including something as simple as a touch or jerking away from someone’s grip.
The charge carries a fine of up to $500, officials said.
Deion Sanders filed for divorce in December, but he and his wife continued to live in separate areas of the same large home, his attorney, Rick Robertson, said. Though the divorce file is under seal and both sides have been placed under a gag order, Robertson said he did not see his client’s tweets as a violation of that order.
“The assault action that occurred was a criminal action that also constitutes family violence,” Robertson said. “Pilar Sanders was arrested for that and jailed.”
Still, Robertson said, the Hall of Fame cornerback who is currently an analyst for the NFL Network regrets having the incident “aired publicly” for his children to see.
Pilar Sanders told reporters Tuesday that her husband’s allegations against her are false and that the public is taking his side because he is a former star football player.
