Windward is switching to eight-man football

Because of concerns over numbers in its football program, Windward is switching to eight-man football for the 2017 season while also planning to play several 11-man games, Athletic Director Tyrone Powell said Monday.
Players were informed of the decision on Monday.
Windward was part of the Gold Coast League. It will switch to a freelance status.
Windward was concerned about finishing its schedule and having weekly concerns if it stayed as an 11-man team.
