Football: Hawkins makes coaching change

Los Angeles Hawkins football Coach Mil’Von James and his brother, Malik, the offensive coordinator, are no longer employed by the Los Angeles Unified School District, a district spokesman said Tuesday.
In a news release, the district said, “The Hawkins senior high school head football coach and assistant football coach are no longer with L.A. Unified. All personnel matters are confidential. The school is working on a transition plan for its football program.”
An email message left for Mil’Von James was not returned.
James took over the program in 2013. Hawkins had receiver Joseph Lewis and running back Greg Johnson sign with USC this month and has some of the best talent in the City Section who were due back for 2017.
The program has been under constant scrutiny because of issues involving transfers and eligibility. The team was ruled ineligible for the 2015 playoffs because of violations during the 2014 season. An emergency hearing was held before this season’s playoffs to determine if the team could stay in the playoffs after allegations of rule violations. No action was taken and the team finished 13-1, losing to Los Angeles High in the Division II championship game.
The Los Angeles Unified School District conducted a lengthy investigation into a program that had more than 40 players transfer to the school over past three seasons.
