Football: Let the competition begin for starting QB at Chaminade
- Share via
The competition to be the starting quarterback at Chaminade is about to begin.
Coach Ed Croson said the arrival of junior to be Brevin White from Alemany doesn’t mean White gets the starting job by default.
“There’s no such thing as a free lunch,” Croson said. “He has to compete.”
White certainly enters as the favorite. He has been a varsity standout since his freshman year.
“We like him,” Croson said. “He’s a neat kid, real smart, always happy. So far, he looks good.”
But White will have to beat out last season’s JV starter, Mac Griffin, the younger brother of NFL quarterback Ryan Griffin, and last season’s freshman starter, Ryan Stevens.
Last season’s varsity backup, Jake Kaplinski, has already transferred to Westlake.
So hold off the comparisons to former Chaminade QB Brad Kaaya, now at Miami, until a starter is determined.
