Boys’ basketball: University is 9-0 after 89-69 win over South East

Westchester and Fairfax remain the favorites to win the Western League, but the most likely league team to be unbeaten well into January is University, which improved to 9-0 on Thursday with an 89-69 win over South East.
Gabe Okmin scored 29 points, Jude Agbasi had 17 and Daisone Hughes had 16. The Wildcats have a chance to be 14-0 before having to face Westchester and Fairfax.
Sylmar defeated San Fernando, 84-53, in the Valley Mission League. Dayquann Williams had 34 points. Van Nuys received 27 points from Tyree Winborn in a 62-53 win over Kennedy.
Birmingham defeated Marshall, 87-32. Devante Doutrive led five players in double figures with 23 points.
Cameron Shelton had 23 points in Damien’s 90-39 win over Marina.
In the Inland Empire tournament, Etiwanda defeated Tahqquitz, 47-41. Kessler Edwards had 15 points.
In the La Canada tournament, St. Francis defeated Arcadia, 69-64. Freshman Andre Henry had 19 points and 11 rebounds. Joey Walsh added 18 points.
La Canada received 32 points from Sean Estes and 25 from Justin Kouyoumdjian in an 82-74 loss to Bonita. Joe Quintana scored 28 points for Bonita.
La Mirada defeated Gahr, 64-56. Devylan Roberson scored 21 points in Servite’s 64-56 win over La Habra.
Edison knocked off Santa Monica, 61-47. Randall Walker scored 21 points.
Valley Torah defeated Faith Baptist, 77-36. Ryan Turrell had 29 points and 10 rebounds. Max Leibowitz added 21 points.
In Las Vegas, Mater Dei defeated Nevada Liberty, 70-40. Justice Sueing scored 16 points. Spencer Freedman had nine assists.
