Boys’ basketball: Sierra Canyon travels to Indiana and knocks off national power Oak Hill
- Share via
Chino Hills was the No. 1 team in America last season with a 35-0 record and Sierra Canyon showed on national television on Thursday night that the best team this season might still be in Southern California.
The Trailblazers (6-0) traveled to Indiana and handed national power Mouth of Wilson (Va.) Oak Hill a 83-79 defeat. Oak Hill was 13-0 and had a 56-game winning streak.
Point guard Remy Martin got the Trailblazers going in the second quarter. They were down, 19-13, after one quarter, but Martin scored 16 points in the second quarter to give Sierra Canyon a 42-38 halftime lead.
Marvin Bagley III was dominant throughout. The 6-foot-11 junior finished with 28 points. Martin had 22 points and Cody Riley came on strong in the fourth quarter, finishing with 16 points and making a series of clutch free throws in the final minute.
There’s still a long season ahead with lots of SoCal opponents capable of beating the Trailblazers, but this game shows their potential with continued improvement.
