Bort Escoto doesn’t normally get too excited while coaching basketball at Sylmar _ unless he sees an officials’ call he doesn’t like.
But he is excited about 6-foot-5 freshman Aaron Reyes, who’s going to become an immediate starter for the Spartans.
Playing in fall league basketball, Reyes sure doesn’t act like a freshman, and that’s what Escoto likes most. He knows when to take the ball inside, displaying the instincts of a veteran.
Escoto is convinced if Reyes happens to keep growing to about 6-7, he could become a top prospect. For now, he’s going to blend in nicely for the Spartans, quietly contributing and gaining experience for the day he becomes the team’s best player.
