College Roundup: No. 4 UC Irvine men’s volleyball powers past Queens

Outside hitter Joel Schneidmiller had a season-high 23 kills, helping the No. 4-ranked UC Irvine men’s volleyball team earn a 25-19, 21-25, 25-10, 25-16 win over Queens University on Friday at the Outrigger Invitational in Honolulu, Hawaii.
JB Kam had 10 kills for the Anteaters (7-3), while Scott Stadick and Aiden Wolf-Nielsen each had nine kills.
UCI plays at top-ranked Hawaii in a nonconference match Saturday.
Benedictine Mesa 3, Vanguard 2: Kyle Anema had 27 kills, 11 digs and five service aces for the host Lions, but the Redhawks rallied for a 19-25, 16-25, 25-23, 29-27, 15-12 win in Friday’s Golden State Athletic Conference match.
Christian Nowtash added 13 kills, and Cody Watts also had 10 kills for Vanguard (5-2, 3-1 in conference). Bryce Thompson distributed 52 assists with 11 digs.
Santa Barbara 3, Orange Coast 1: The host Vaqueros earned a 25-23, 25-21, 24-26, 25-22 nonconference win Friday.
Orange Coast is now 2-1.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Cypress 80, Orange Coast 56: Jonathan Ileleji had 20 points off the bench for the Pirates in Friday’s Orange Empire Conference road game.
Orange Coast fell to 3-21 overall and 0-12 in conference play.
Santiago Canyon 112, Golden West 76: KJ Walker led the Rustlers with 14 points on Friday in an Orange Empire Conference game at home.
Eric Watson had 11 points and 13 rebounds for Golden West (3-22, 1-12 in conference). Justin Kirksey scored 11 points.
BASEBALL
Vanguard 15, Benedictine Mesa 4: Landon Riker had a home run and three runs batted in for the host Lions on Friday in a nonconference game.
Chad Sutton went four for five with three runs scored and two RBIs for Vanguard (6-1).
Garrett Molnar threw six innings, allowing two earned runs in the win. He struck out six and walked three.
Cuesta 6, Orange Coast 4: Logan Jackson had two hits, including a double, and a RBI for the Pirates in Friday’s nonconference game on the road.
Cary Arbolida and Nolan Funke also had two hits each for Orange Coast (1-5).
Sequoias 10, Golden West 9: The visiting Rustlers dropped to 3-5 following Friday’s nonconference game.
MEN’S TENNIS
San Francisco 4, UC Irvine 1: Jeremy Merville earned a win at No. 4 singles for the Anteaters’ point in Friday’s nonconference road match.
UC Irvine is now 0-2.
Santa Barbara 8, Orange Coast 1: The Pirates fell to 1-3 with Friday’s nonconference road loss.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Nevada 4, UC Irvine 0: The Anteaters fell to 1-2 after Friday’s nonconference home loss.
Santa Barbara 6, Orange Coast 2: The Pirates are now 1-2 after dropping Friday’s nonconference match on the road.
WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD
New Mexico Collegiate Classic: UC Irvine had three top-10 finishes on the first day Friday.
Brianna Valenzuela was eighth in the weight throw with a mark of 57 feet, 2¾ inches.
Mychal Robinson was 10th in the unseeded 200 meters in a career-best 25.89 seconds, and Sha’Maya Flanagan was eighth in the unseeded 400 meters (56.99).
SOFTBALL
Vanguard 2, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical 1 (eight innings): The Lions improved to 5-2 with their fifth straight win on Friday in an NAIA Triple Crown Tournament game in Lake Elsinore.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Riverside 99, Golden West 54: Kristen Beall had 10 points off the bench to lead the visiting Rustlers on Friday in an Orange Empire Conference game.
Abigail Guerrero, Rejoyce Balubar-Argueta and Yvette Trujillo each scored nine points for Golden West (3-18, 0-9 in conference).
