Junior players denied in semifinals at Ojai tourney

OJAI — Joseph Di Giulio, as well two local doubles teams, lost in the semifinals of the 109th annual Ojai Valley Junior Tennis Tournament Saturday.

Di Giulio, the No. 2 seed, was upset by No. 7 seed Justin Agbayani, 7-6 (6), 4-6, 6-4, in the boys’ 16 singles division. Top-seeded Billy Pecor won the division.

Corona del Mar High’s Parker Rhodes and Shane Korber lost to Brentwood’s Walker Kehrer and Daniel McCall, 6-3, 6-2, in the boys’ CIF doubles division. Santa Barbara’s Billy Grokenberger and Chase Melton won in the final.

CdM’s No. 4-seeded duo of Kelli Feely and Karen Ishii were eliminated after losing to top-seeded Rachel Fox and Nicole Kosakowski, 6-0, 6-4, in the girls’ 18 doubles division. The winners went on to win the title.
